Overview

Denver Recognition:

Colorado Supreme Court Pro Bono Recognition (2006-2012) for performing at least 50 hours of pro bono legal service per attorney

Our Denver office has been an integral part of the firm's national practice since it opened in 1980. Our Denver lawyers work with national, regional, and Denver-based clients on matters including product liability and pharmaceutical litigation, complex bankruptcies and business reorganizations, antitrust litigation, commercial disputes, and environmental, energy, federal lands, and Native American matters, as well as intellectual property law together with patent procurement and counseling. The Denver office handles all stages of litigation including trials and appellate work.

Our lawyers work with a diverse mix of clients-pharmaceutical and consumer products companies, energy companies, airlines, private equity firms, recreation and resort companies, financial services companies and other major corporations. In addition, we work with public agencies, developers, Native American tribes, and individuals. We have played a significant role in defending clients in large, multijurisdictional mass tort litigation, including trials in jurisdictions that are considered hostile to corporate defendants. This has included representing Wyeth in both diet drug and hormone therapy cases and Philip Morris in smoking and health cases. We played an integral role in a number of recent litigation victories, including a US$39.8 million damage award by the US Court of Federal Claims and a decertification of a nationwide class action on behalf of a major international retailer. The Denver office has represented the Hopi Tribe since 1986 in litigation and administrative proceedings concerning the tribe's land rights, said to be the largest quiet-title action in the US. On the national stage, the Denver office has also been responsible for many of the largest airline reorganizations since deregulation, most recently representing US Airways as lead counsel in its Chapter 11 reorganization and simultaneous merger with America West, representing Northwest Airlines in its unprecedented labor litigation victories in its Chapter 11 reorganization, and representing large creditors in the Delta Airlines and United Airlines Chapter 11 cases.

The Denver office makes a substantial contribution to our firmwide pro bono efforts. Lawyers in our Denver office have achieved recent successes in the areas of family law, indigent rights, land use, veterans' rights, and an injunction against the state's use of improper requirements to deny driver's licenses to Colorado citizens. As a result of this work, the Colorado Lawyers Committee named Arnold & Porter LLP "Law Firm of the Year," and the firm has been recognized by the Colorado Supreme Court for its pro bono efforts in the state.
